Why now

New York is rebuilding the diploma around what students can demonstrate.

On June 15, 2026, the Board of Regents and the State Education Department announced a plan to move toward a first-in-the-nation competency-based diploma. Graduation moves away from time-based measures toward demonstrated readiness, grounded in the Portrait of a Graduate and prioritized learning standards.

  1. July 2025 The Board of Regents approves the Portrait of a Graduate as the frame for graduation.
  2. June 15, 2026 NYSED announces the plan for a first-in-the-nation competency-based diploma.
  3. Class of 2028 A single state diploma, with no prescribed set of Regents exams required to earn it.
  4. 2029-30 grade 9 Full implementation: students demonstrate proficiency in standards, competencies, and the Portrait.

I built this company to solve the problems districts will inevitably face when moving to standards-based grading and implementing Portrait of a Graduate.

When my district began moving to standards-based grading in 2024 we were promised a working gradebook by our competitor. It's 2026 and we are still using spreadsheets. New York is committing every district to Portrait of a Graduate and standards-based learning. We are here to do it better than anyone else can.
